Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
