The Worst Video Games of 2025, Per Aggregate Scores

Everywhere you look, fans are foaming at the mouth to post their selections of the best games of 2025. However, what of the flops, the failures? It's time to take a few moments to honor the absolute worst games of the year, as determined by review aggregator Metacritic. Is every one of these games as bad as the ratings suggest? Here is the list.

10. Switch 2's Welcome Tour

Aggregate Score: 54/100, User Score: 3.4/10

First impressions to this pack-in experience were heavily influenced by its $9.99 price tag, with many expressing disappointment it wasn't a complimentary title like competing console launches. Critical opinion spanned a wide spectrum, from "crushing disappointment" to somewhat forgiving appraisals that noted the charming software itself. Regardless of the grumbling, the title proved to be a strong seller during its launch month.

9. Rennsport

Metascore: 53/100, User Score: 3.2/10

Billed as "more than a racing game," this driving sim from European developers was met with largely negative reviews. Reviews pointed out that the game was lacking in nearly every way, particularly in a year featuring stellar racing games. In the eyes of critics, this underwhelming entry was best left on the shelf.

8. The Purrfect Bubsy Collection

Metascore: 53/100, Audience Score: 8.6/10

To begin with: the awkward colon usage is a notable strike against it. This compilation of retro Bubsy titles features a rude feline known for constant quips. The consensus was that these games were mediocre originally and feel dated with age. The surprisingly strong user score remains a baffling anomaly to the critical reception.

7. Hunter x Hunter Fighting Game

Metascore: 53, Audience Score: 3.5

This *Hunter x Hunter* brawler faced widespread disappointment from both professionals and fans. Issues included a thin fighter lineup and a severe lack of content. Fan reaction was especially harsh, with some voicing a desire that the title's poor performance would serve as a lesson for future projects.

6. Neptunia Motorcycle Game

Metascore: 51, Audience Score: 5.3

Hailing from the anime-style Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this vehicle combat game tasks players with collecting Dogoos. Reviewers felt that its attempt to channel a *Katamari Damacy*-like experience was unsuccessful, coming across as more of a cash grab than a meaningful series entry. Its short length combined with a full retail cost raised eyebrows.

5. Captain Blood

Metascore: 50, User Score: 5.3

This title is a curious artifact from the Xbox era, finally released after a very long time in legal limbo. The team behind it made the decision to preserve the game as an period-accurate experience of its time, fully aware that contemporary players might dislike its old-school mechanics. As such, many reviews noted that the interesting history of its journey was more interesting than the end product.

4. Scar-Lead

Metascore: 44, Audience Score: 2.4

This anime-art roguelike shooter modeled after games like *Returnal* fell flat with critics. The main issues were bland enemy design, monotonous stage design, and a forgettable story. A much-criticized system involving the outfit degradation was universally disliked and took away from the game's enjoyment.

3. Ambulance Life

Metascore: 44, User Score: 4.9

Imagine the strategic medical sims of the past, then take out the compelling story. That, according to reviews, is essentially *Ambulance Life*. Critics found the ambulance-driving sequences to be monotonous, and the narrative's handling of mental health topics was criticized as being poorly executed. The overall experience was deemed largely unsatisfying.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Aggregate Score: 43, User Score: 5.8

This departure from the classic digital companion formula turns the franchise into a town-management title. The result, based on critics, was a unsatisfying collection of simple minigames that very soon became boring. Some reviews went so far as to label it one of the most disappointing titles available on its platform, noting a profound lack of depth.

1. MindsEye

Metascore: 37, User Score: 2.5

Arriving as a high-profile crime saga from a team featuring experienced developers, *MindsEye* was a spectacular critical flop. Reviews savaged its weak action, dull missions, and a multitude of technical problems. Several found it to be a regression compared to much older games in the same genre. Despite the scathing reviews, a tiny number of positive user reviews found value in the experience, serving as a lonely contrast.
